Ballarat And District Aboriginal Co-operative - Anniversary Ebook & Video archive project

Highlights of the project:

This video archive project was an amazing opportunity to connect and interview the local Aboriginal Elders from the Ballarat region and hear their story of how the Ballarat and District Aboriginal Co-operative (BADAC) was formed as well as the struggles that brought it about. We then put together the stories into a storytelling online format to bring the yarns alive.

Video production & archival image capture

15 videos were created, interviewing around 17 local people involved in the setting up of BADAC in 1979. A simple video production setup was used, with emphasis on making the interviewees at ease and free to express their story as they see it. Old newspaper clippings and photos related to the founding of BADAC were borrowed and images taken for use in the project.

Website design and creation

We created a simple and easy to navigate website to showcase the stories, videos, history and archival images. The design was decided to be similar to a book that would be easy to scroll through different stories.
